I made this recipe for the first time last month. It was the week before Thanksgiving. We had company visiting from Orlando for an Alice and Wonderland Geo-caching game.

Everyone was sleeping, and as usual, I was awake before the sun. I thought it would be nice to wake up to warm cinnamon rolls. Thing is, I wanted a quick recipe that I could make before anyone opened an eye. My time was limited. My youngest is an early riser. The first thing out of her mouth every morning is, ‘I’m hungry.’

I had Hawaiian Sweet Rolls on hand for BBQ pork sliders from dinner the night before. The rolls were on sale at Aldi and they just so happen to be dairy-free! So cool! The little one loves sweet rolls but does not eat them because they are usually made with dairy products.

Before I knew it, I was elbow-deep pulling this recipe together. While the Hawaiian Cinnamon Sweet Rolls were in the oven baking, melting the butter, cinnamon, and sugar into one, the house filled with a gorgeous aroma. After 15 minutes, I removed the rolls from the oven and let them cool just a bit before icing them.

I love when there is the perfect amount of luscious cream cheese-flavored icing on top of cinnamon rolls and a little on the bottom of the pan. Isn’t it great when you get to scrape the icing off the sheet pan with your fingers after all the cinnamon rolls are gone?

Just in a nick of time, the youngest woke up a few minutes later. I bet the aroma had everything to do with it!

Serve the rolls warm.

¡Buen Provecho!

Instructions

  1. Hawaiian Rolls

    Preheat oven to 325 degrees.

  2. Line a sheet pan with parchment paper and set aside.

  3. Remove the Hawaiian Sweet Rolls from the packaging, keeping the rolls together as one piece. Place them onto a cutting board.

  4. With a serrated knife cut the Hawaiian rolls in half horizontally. This will create one large top piece and one bottom piece.

  5. Place the bottom piece of the rolls on the sheet pan. Spread 1/4 cup of dairy-free butter on the bottom piece.

  6. Evenly sprinkle the brown sugar and cinnamon over the butter layer.

  7. Set the cut top of the Hawaiian Sweet Rolls on the butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon layers.

  8. Spread the remaining 1/4 cup of dairy-free butter on the top of the rolls.

  9. Bake for 12-15 minutes.

The cinnamon, sugar, and butter mixture should be completely melted together.

  10. Icing

While the cinnamon rolls are baking, prepare the icing.

In a small mixing bowl combine powdered sugar, dairy-free coffee creamer, cream cheese-flavored pudding mix, vanilla, and salt together until smooth.

  11. Assemble

Allow the Hawaiian Cinnamon Sweet Rolls to cool for 2-3 minutes after removing them from the oven before icing.

  12. Drizzle icing over the rolls.

    Serve Warm and enjoy!
